Housing & Community Development offers an array of services for all levels of homebuyers in Harford County. The program works to build communities by providing housing and budget counseling to help moderate to low income families.
Our First-Time Homebuyer Workshops are an educational opportunity for individuals who have not previously owned a home through budget and housing counseling. A family enrolled in First-Time Homebuyer Services works one-on-one with their counselor to identify the goals and changes they need to make to become buyer-ready. The counselor helps each family discover how, they too, are capable of owning their own home and works with them through the whole process. The workshops deliver information in a group setting about home ownership with presentations about financing, real estate professionals, title companies, home inspections, and insurance.
Additional counseling services are available to assist Harford County families enhance their financial management skills, increase awareness of programs available to prevent foreclosure (when possible), discuss reverse mortgage programs and options to consider when applying for a reverse mortgage, to help families calculate financial gain through available programs, and to work on a family’s behalf with lenders (when necessary).
