Reservations are now being taken for Eden Mill Nature Center’s Family Canoe Trips! These trips help acquaint the paddlers with the natural surroundings on Deer Creek. Exploration of the environment, both the land and the water, is enhanced by the use of canoes to travel along Deer Creek. During these excursions, environmental education and interpretation are provided by the naturalist accompanying the group. Basic paddling instruction is provided before the trip. Canoes, paddles, and personal floatation devices (lifejackets) are provided. All trips originate and end at Eden Mill. Saturday morning trips begin at 8:15am and end at approx.11:00am. Thursday evening paddles begin at 5:45pm and end at approx. 8:30pm. Our season begins May 2nd and runs through September 28th, 2013. Learn why non-native invasive plants are a threat to our ecosystem, how to identify problem plants, and removal and restoration strategies. Unlock the mysteries of growing this fragrant herb by attending the Growing and Crafting with Lavender class at Eden Mill Nature Center’s classroom on Saturday June 29th from 9:00 to 11:00 am. The class is open to ages 12 and up interested in the cultivation and propagation of lavender. We will also discuss the lavender varieties that grow best in our area, and make a lavender craft. Eden Mill Nature Center will be offering this course on June 30, July 13, July 28, August 10 from 12-2 pm for ages 8 and older. The fee is $10.00 for members and $15 for non-members. Creek snorkeling sounds like a strange idea. But the underwater world of our rivers and streams is amazing! Snorkeling is one of the most powerful experiences we can have in our rivers and streams and it reveals the unexpectedly beautiful sights of our freshwater environments. Join underwater naturalist Keith Williams as we explore the underwater world of Deer Creek. We can expect to see a variety of fish and incredible underwater stream scapes.
