GLOVER PLEADS GUILTY TO MANSLAUGHTER

On 19 November 2003, Robert Matthew Glover plead guilty in the beating death of Charles Ray Sherer. Judge William O. Carr sentenced Glover to serve ten years in the Division of Correction. Speaking from the witness stand, the victim's wife, Teresa Sherer, told the defendant, "You took my husband and my children's father from me but we have gotten stronger."

Sherer's body was discovered in February 1998 along Route 40 near Aberdeen. Glover was charged later that year but his first trial was dismissed by a judge for a lack of speedy trial. An appellate court reversed the dismissal and the case was scheduled to go to trial on 1 December 2003. The plea was reached in an agreement with the State to drop murder charges. Assistant State's Attorney Jeffery Michael said, "Given the evidence we had to present we believe that this is the charge Glover would have been convicted of if the case had gone to a jury."
