MURDERER PLEADS GUILTY IN GUESS KILLING

The trial of Darrell Miller for the murder of Derald Guess, which was scheduled to begin today 19 September, was cancelled when the defendant Miller entered a plea of guilty to the first degree murder of Mr. Guess. Miller agreed as part of the plea to testify at other trials related to the murder in return for which the State will seek a sentence of life with all but 45 years to be suspended.

Deputy State's Attorney Diana Brooks presented the facts to the court. The murder occurred on 8 December 2004 just after midnight. The United Sedan Service had dispatched a van driven by Derald Guess to the 1500 block of Harford Square Drive in Edgewood Maryland as a result of a phone call. Guess, a 37 year old father of nine, was found with a gunshot wound to the head. The Guess family was present in the courtroom during the plea.

Investigation by deputies of the Harford County Sheriff's Office traced the phone call to a cell phone to a co-defendant of Miller. Miller outlined his role in the planned robbery and murder and his affiliation with the gang known as the Bloods.

The sentencing will be scheduled at a later date.
