Volunteer Connection provides personal service to potential volunteers who wish to share their time and talents. We work to match your skills and interests with an agency/organization that needs you.

Volunteer Connection maintains an extensive, up-to-date listing of many volunteer service opportunities available in both Harford and Cecil counties for individuals, groups, and families who want to meet important community needs. Training is generally provided.

Donations Needed for the Holiday Season

Anna's House-Anna's House is a transitional housing program for homeless women and their children.  Please contact Cindy Hanley at 410-803-1752 to find out about their clients wish list for this holiday season.

Villa Maria School-  Is in need of goody bags for our students to have for a Thanksgiving luncheon at the school and/or Christmas as well.  Please contact Mary Lee Saarbach at msaarbac@catholiccharities-md.org for more information.
 
American Red Cross Comfort Kits- The American Red Cross is in need for more items for their comfort kits.  They need shampoo,moisturizing shave cream, disposable safety razor, hand and body lotion, bath soap, wash cloth, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb.  Please contact Pam Tice at 410-624-2023 for more information.

Gallagher Services-Gallagher Services which is a division of Catholic Charities that serves adults with developmental disabilities.  They have many group homes in Harford County and would like to offer music therapy to their residents.  They are in need of simple, washable instruments, the type children use in school and small portable single CD players.  Many of the individuals are non-verbal, some are blind and have difficulty with mobility.  However nearly everyone loves music as it truly is the universal language.  Please contact Kathleen Roberts at 410-252-4005 ext. 145 for more information.


Citizens Care & Rehabilitation Center of Harford County is seeking volunteers for Business Office Duties

Telephone Switchboard Operator 1-2 hours daily and  office duties.  Must submit application, background check and non-employee confidentialy statement and Interview with Director of Business Operations. Holiday Bazaar & Craft Show Friday, Dec 4th and Saturday, Dec 5th 9am-3pm.  Held at Citizens Care  & Rehabilitation Center 415 S. Market Street Havre de Grace, MD.  Event held in Chesapeake Room.  Soup Kitchen with Homemade soups available for eat in or carry out. 

Crafts, gifts & bake table.  Vendors & Crafters wanted: Table space is $20.00 for both days non-refundable.  Citizens provides table, chair and cover.  Interested Contact Janet McDonald @ 410-939-5500 ext. 243.


Quilts for Heroes

This group meets at APG-EA (Edgewood Post) Chapel on Monday evenings (except Federal Holidays) from 4:30-8:00 PM.  They make quilts for wounded warfighters and have presented over 400 quilts to warfighters at Walter Reed.  They also ocassionally have the opportunity to present quilts to local families who have lost loved one in Iraq or Afganistan.  If you would like to join us, contact Carol Hansen at 443-752-2603.

National MS Society

Volunteers needed for the WALK MS  2010 Committees

Volunteers needed to help the National MS Society build a successful walk in two communities: Havre de Grace and Frederick. The Walk in Havre de Grace will take place on Sunday April 18 at Havre de Grace High School and in Frederick on Saturday, April 10th at Frederick High School.

Walk MS is the largest fundraising event for the National MS Society, Maryland Chapter, raising over $1.1 million and attracting over 8,000 walkers in 2009 alone. Be a part of something big, join a Walk MS Committee and start making a difference in your local community today.

Goal of the Committee- To reach out into the local community and provide access to businesses, recruit new participants and teams, and secure in-kind and local sponsorships.

Position Description: A committee member must strive to be the eyes and ears of the community to help the National MS Society have more success in the areas of recruitment, fundraising, and sponsorship. A committee member is a passionate individual who wants to do something about MS now.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Committee members will be asked to recruit participants.
  2. Committee members will be asked to find and secure local sponsorships.
  3. Committee members may be asked to go to community meetings in order to advertise the event.
  4. Committee members are expected to lead by example and raise money for Walk MS.
  5. Committee members will be asked to distribute brochures and/or posters to local businesses.
  6. Committee members should attend the walk event and act as a key volunteer during the day of the event.
  7. Committee members are not expected to carry out logistics. 
  8. Committee members must be knowledgeable of the organization and mission and be willing to speak about both.
  9. Time Commitment: at most one in-person a meeting a month at a location in your community. Majority of communication will be done via e-mail and phone between committee members and with NMSS staff.

Cherish The Child Symposium

The Cherish the Child Symposium is an annual child abuse and neglect conference here in Harford County organized by a number of child serving agencies throughout the community.  They are in need of a volunteer group to help with set up and break down of tables for the conference.  The set-up will happen on Thursday, April 22 and the breakdown is just after the conference on Friday April 23, which ends around 4 p.m.

VILLA MARIA SCHOOL IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS

The new Villa Maria School opened in Harford County in September of 2009.  They are truly in need of a wide vairety of volunteer help.

-Their library that is in true need of new books which would necessitate a book drive
 
-They are in need of putting together items for their school store as well, small items such as action figures, playing cards, uno cards, and other smaller articles for the children to have.

Freedom Hills Therapeutic Riding Program

Freedom Hills Therapeutic Riding in Port Deposit Maryland is in need of Volunteers for variety of projects.  Help is needed with cleaning and oiling riding equipment, gardening, building projects, helping with fundraising and volunteering with students.

Relay for Life Committee Volunteers Needed (30)

 Amedisys Hospice of Greater Chesapeake (formerly Harford Hospice)

Direct Patient Care and Clerical Volunteers Needed

 Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company

Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company has an immediate need for firefighters, EMS and Auxiliary Volunteers.  Training is provided.  The minimum age requirement is sixteen.  Support personnel are also needed to assist with mailings, accounting and recruiting.

Volunteer to Impact a Childs Life with

Harford County Public Library

Volunteer for Partners in Reading

Encourage a childs enthusiasm for reading as you work one-on-one or in small groups with elementary school students.  Volunteer to visit a school for one hour per week during the school year. 

Volunteer for Sharing the Gift

Encourage a childs enthusiasm for reading as you share stories, finger plays and other library materials with young children.  Volunteer to visit a licensed preschool or daycare center for a half day per month from October through April.

Volunteers Needed

 The Historical Society of Harford County, Inc.

is looking for volunteers to assist in several capacities.

We have three research departments:

Archives consists of a large collection of original documents, such as diaries, day books, wills, plats, and photographs

Archives hours are Wednesdays 8 AM to 2 PM

Court Records consists of old court records of trials and other court actions from Harford County's early days

Court records hours are Tuesdays 10 AM to 2:30 PM

Research Library houses a large collection of Harford County and Maryland books and family genealogies, also maps, newspaper clippings, cemetery records, marriage and death records.

Research Library hours are Thursdays  9 AM to 3 PM

Archives and the Research Library are also open the 4th Saturday of each month

Help is needed to:

 Review new donations and prepare them for use by researchers

Preserve and protect fragile documents through encapsulation

File and store materials

Enter data into our new PastPerfect program.

(PastPerfect is a computer software program for small museums to handle all records of materials in the collection. (This program is now available to researchers on site and soon to be available online.)

Hays House

Hays House (which is run by The Historical Society) is also in need of volunteers.  It is a living history museum open on Sundays from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM.  Docents are needed and training will be provided.  We also can use help with special events planning and staffing.  Anyone with craft skills such as weaving, caning, needlework , woodworking, etc. would be welcomed.   Interested parties may call the Historical Society at 410-838-7691 for information.   People may volunteer on a per event basis if they choose.
