INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS
Harford County studies traffic
movements and improves intersections throughout the County. Types of improvements include,
but are not limited to widening to allow for an additional lane, relocation for better
turning movements, site distance improvements, and safety improvements.
Drainage Improvements
Harford County Highway
Maintenance repairs stormdrain systems
on County maintained roadways. These
improvements include repairs to failing stormdrain systems, installation of addition
stormdrain inlets where necessary, and the extension of the stormdrain system where
necessary.
Traffic Calming Requests
Requests for neighborhood traffic management must be made in writing by
a Homeowners Association for neighborhoods with associations, or by individual citizens
where no community
association exists. Once the request is received, Harford County Public Works (traffic
division) staff will conduct a traffic study
of the road to determine the roadway classification, traffic volume, speed and physical
geometry. This information is reviewed and points assigned to each category to determine
if the road is eligible for traffic calming. The requestor will be notified in writing of
the results, recommendations and, if applicable, the next steps in the process.
Street Light Requests
Residents can request the installation of a street light at
intersections. See Intersection Lighting for installation
details.
Traffic Signals
Harford County and the State Highway
Administration will investigate intersections throughout the County for the
possible placement of traffic signals. If certain criteria are met, based on those
established by the manual on uniform traffic control, a signal will be programmed for
installation.
