SEDIMENT CONTROL APPROVAL PROCESS
The sediment control
program is administered by Water Resources
Engineering. Sediment control must be addressed for all new development within
Harford County that disturbs more than 5,000 SQ.FT. of area or involves movement of more
than 100 CU YDS of earth. For those developments that require sediment control, design
plans that outline what sediment control practices
will be utilized to minimize sediment leaving the construction site must be submitted and
receive approval prior to any land development activity.
For specific design requirements and legislation please refer to the
following documents:
Harford County Code Section 214 (Sediment Control and Stormwater
Management)
Visit the Maryland Department of the Environment web
site at www.mde.state.md.us.

All sediment control plans must be processed through Harford Countys Development
Review Process. As part of this process, the Office of Development Coordination coordinates design plan
approval, bonding requirements, and permit approval process for the Department of Public
Works. Any questions about project status or time frames for approvals should be directed
to that office.
