Water and Sewer Environmental Affairs Engineering and Construction Office of the Director Divisions of the Department of Public Works

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
Contains information and telephone numbers for various Construction Inspection offices.
HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE
Responsible to maintain over 1043.58 miles of Harford County public roads.  To include repairing pot holes, sweeping road debris, grading earth roads, clearing debris from roadways, leveling roads in reparation for resurfacing and snow removal operations.

TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING
Transportation Engineering is responsible for coordinating new construction and repairs for bridges, reviewing subdivision plans for roads and stormdrains, and coordinating roadway repairs throughout Harford County.

The inspection of County maintained bridges and programs for maintenance.

County Maintained Roadways

Pavement Management Program
Rating of the existing condition of the 647 miles of asphalt roads maintained in Harford County.
Street Light Policy
Residents can request street lighting for the following traffic safety conditions: County road intersections, hazardous curves, end of roadways, and areas with a high accident rate.
Survey Section
Provides surveying services to most Harford County agencies for County projects.   Establishes survey monuments providing locations in Harford County that can be used to locate new features such as stormdrains, water and sewer lines, and buildings. 
Traffic Study
Evaluation to identify any improvement necessary to accommodate existing or projected traffic volumes.
WATER RESOURCES ENGINEERING
To provide a comprehensive environmental program to protect and enhance the quality of Harford County’s water resources including streams, rivers, lakes, reservoirs, ponds, and wetlands.
NPDES (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System) Program
Federally mandated program to improve water quality in Harford County waterway.
Sediment Control Practices
Practices such as stabilized construction entrances, earth dikes, temporary swales, sediment traps, sediment basins, silt fence, and super silt fence that reduce sediment during construction.
Sediment Control Program
Purpose is to minimize the amount of sediments leaving a construction site.
Stormwater Management Program
All new development in Harford County must address stormwater management.   Development  that requires stormwater management must control the proposed peak discharge leaving the site to a level equal or less than the existing peak discharge.
Watershed Study
Conducting studies to identify stream water quality problems on a watershed basis.
