METER INSTALLED / PROBLEMS
The Meter Section of the Division of Water & Sewer installs, reads and
repairs commercial and residential water meters. Residential meters are read quarterly for
quarterly billing and commercial meters are read monthly and quarterly for quarterly
billing.
Harford County has over
27,000 water customers. Commercial and residential customers have a water meter that
measures the amount of water used. Your meter is located either in your home or building,
or in a vault outside at the property line. Meter personnel can read your meter, even if
it is located inside your home, with a remote device located outside the home. Meter
personnel read the meter with an electronic hand held computer. The previous reading is
automatically subtracted from the current reading to determine the amount of water
actually used.
If you believe your water bill is too high for no obvious reason, such as more people
in the home, leaking toilets or heavy lawn watering, you should report this to the Meter
Section to be investigated if necessary.
As a courtesy to our Harford County customers, the Meter Section will investigate
leaks, pressure readings, no water, frozen meters, and can turn off the water so that
customers can make repairs.
Upon request, the Meter Section will test the accuracy of your meter for a fee. The fee
varies depending upon the size of the meter, ranging from $25 to $225.
