PETITION
CANDIDACY: To be nominated by petition as a general election candidate,
a person must meet the legal qualifications for any given public office. They must
also be registered to vote as either an Independent or Declined to Affiliate or a
member of a newly recognized, non-primary party. They may also be registered to vote
as affiliated with a non-recognized party. A person may not be nominated by
petition as a general election candidate if they are affiliated with a political party
recognized in Maryland which nominates by primary election (Democrat or Republican).
