    Join Mark Johnson and Les Eastman as they band birds. Banding will take place at the Joe Vangrin Memorial Pavilion, located near the trail head, with intermittent walks to check the nets. The following Bird Banding dates are tentative and weather permitting: Thursday, September 5; Friday, September 13; Friday, September 20; Saturday, September 28. Bird banding begins at 7am and ends at noon. There is no registration or fee for this demonstration.

    FULL BEEKEEPER COURSE

    Eden Mill Nature Center will be offering a 7-session Bee Keepers course for adults. There will be seven weeknight sessions on Thursdays: March 6, 13, 20, 27; and April 3, 10, 17 from 7:00-9:00 PM There will also be a Saturday session on April 19th and/or 26th at 10:00 AM in the bee yard. The fee is $70 for members and $80 for nonmembers, which includes books. Instructor and Master Beekeeper Cybil Preston will teach you all you need to know to become a hobbyist beekeeper, from start to finish. You will learn how to establish your own hive, understand the basics of disease and mite management, and learn how to maintain a reduced or chemical free environment for your bees.     Eden Mill Nature Center will be offering this program on March 8 or April 5 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. for ages 7 – 12. The cost is $5 for non-members and $3 for members. Take a walk to observe and learn about deer habitat requirements and what can limit their population, then play a habitat game called Oh Deer in the upper meadow.     Eden Mill Nature Center will be offering this class on Sat. May 3rd from 10am-12pm for ages 14-adult. Using the tools and techniques of Integrated Pest Management can be inexpensive and rewarding. This workshop will introduce participants to the beneficial predatory insects commonly found in the garden, vineyard, and orchard in our region. We will also explore strategies of protecting and facilitating the proliferation of these insects. The cost is $5 for Eden Mill members or $8 for non-members. Pre-registration is required.
