LEGAL PROCEDURES
If there are differences of opinion among family members as to what to do or how to do it, especially if the parent has considerable assets, it may be appropriate
to engage the services of a lawyer, financial consultant, or estate planner who is familiar with these kinds of situations. For those who cannot afford an attorney
or who do not know where to turn in order to resolve problems regarding Medicaid, Medicare, housing, public benefits, consumer debts or bankruptcy, the Office on
Aging can refer you to legal service programs for seniors in your county. Also the Maryland State Bar Association offers legal services to lower income seniors for
a small fee in the following areas: financial and health care durable Powers of Attorney, simple Wills, Living Wills, and simple deed charges. For more information
call 1.800.510.0050 and ask the 60+ Legal Program or visit the Maryland State Bar Association on the web.
