NURSING HOME CARE
Nursing Homes are for those individuals who need additional nursing care that cannot be provided at home. In addition to providing room, board, and personal care services; nursing homes provide skilled nursing services. Nursing home care is for individuals who suffer from unstable medical conditions or need more personal care and supervision than assisted living facilities can usually handle. Most nursing homes are also able to provide rehabilitative services after a hospital stay.
Services provided by Nursing Homes vary depending on the facility. General services include:
- Room, Board and Personal Care Services;
- 24-Hour Skilled Nursing Services;
- Nutritionist services and activities;
- Social Worker Services;
- Resident Physicians who visit facility;
- Extended care for illness or injury;
- Rehabilitation Services (physical, occupational, rehabilitative therapy);
- Recreational therapy;
- Respiratory Care;
- Help with your speech;
- Hospice Care
Medicare only pays for short period of time in a nursing home. If eligible for Medicaid, long term financial assistance is available for nursing home care. Medicaid may also be able to help you with the services you would need to stay at home or in the community. To apply for Long-Term Medical Assistance, call the Department of Social Services at 410.836.4787.
