Workshop A - The College Admission Process – Getting There from Here: This workshop is designed to help students and their parents navigate their college journey by creating a map, finding a trusted guide, getting the right supplies, navigating the terrain, and planting their flag at their college of choice. You’ll review the decisions that go into selecting a college, as well as what needs to be done now in order to get there. Presenter: Brian J. Hammond, Coordinator for Admissions, Harford Community College.
Workshop B - Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) and Workforce Technology Center (WTC): Derick Serra, Vocational Rehabilitation Technical Specialist, will discuss the DORS programs that lead to employment. DORS helps eligible students plan for job training, higher education and employment. DORS provides personalized support and employment services so individuals with disabilities can plan a path to a successful career. Christine Franklin, Staff Specialist, will discuss the WTC, a comprehensive rehabilitation facility that offers programs and services to prepare individuals with disabilities for employment and independence. WTC serves people with physical, sensory, cognitive, emotional and/or learning disabilities. The WTC offers the skills and information needed to transition into today’s competitive workplace, along with individualized attention that consumers need to learn at their own pace.
Workshop C - Mastering Your Money After High School: Learn to manage your money, create a budget, and avoid credit card traps. This entertaining and interactive workshop will teach students how to be money smart in these financially challenging times. Presenter: Michael Ches, Financial Education Specialist, Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union.
Workshop D - Maryland Workforce Exchange: The Maryland Workforce Exchange is an online job seeker system, which helps job seekers to use a professional format to create and send resumes and cover letters; assess job skills and set goals; track job search efforts and link to internet sites for information helpful to jobseekers. Presenter: Jackie Angerhofer, Counseling Supervisor, Susquehanna Workforce Network.

Workshop E – Work and Disability Benefits: Understanding your Options: David Mitchell, Director, Benefits INfoSource, Independence Now will discuss the effect of work on cash and medical benefits, as well as work incentives for people receiving Social Security disability benefits. Learn how to use work incentives to make yourself more financially independent and self-sufficient.
Workshop F - Should I Stay or Should I Go? Increasing Independence for Every Student: Join Independent Living Specialists Lori Baskette and Ruth Ann Wynegar of The IMAGE Center in tackling the question that often arises for young adults in transition, “Should I stay or should I go?” Designed to increase the options of independence for every student, this workshop will cover the basics of independent living at home or in the community, as well as money management and budgeting skills, housekeeping skills, information on project-based and tenant-based housing subsidies, home modifications and general guidelines in achieving success through independence.
Workshop G - Be the STAR of your own Show: Market Yourself to Get a Job: Today’s job market is tough – so how do you beat the odds? Come to this session to learn how to really market yourself. You will discover ways to pick out your best features and turn them into benefits to the job you want by creating a marketing script for your own personal commercial. You’ll walk away with skills you can use to make a great resume and wow them on an interview. Presenter: Amy Dwyre, Senior Associate, TransCen, Inc.
Workshop H - The Art of Self-Advocacy: What is self-advocacy? What is the importance of being a self-advocate? How does self-advocacy increase independent living for youth in transition? Join IMAGE Center Program Director for Transitioning Youth Jessica Leone and CreateAbilties through the Arts, INC. Program Director Zoey Robinson-Budreski in creatively exploring the art of self-advocacy.
Workshop I - Ride Along with Harford Transit LINK: Everything you wanted to know about public transportation in Harford County: the fixed bus routes, specialized services, the Ride Guide. Harford Transit LINK may be your ticket to work, recreation, shopping, medical appointments, etc. Presenters: Maria Pounds and Sharon Grzanka, Harford County Department of Community Services.

Workshop J - Estate Planning: Planning for the future of a loved one with a disability can be a complicated maze to navigate. Proper financial and legal estate planning can help protect eligibility for Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and other government programs. These topics, as well as self-determination, guardianship, powers of attorney, circles of support and special needs trusts and how to create an estate to fund them will be discussed. Presenter: Diann Jones, MBA, Financial Specialist.
Workshop K - Summer Internship 2012: Students 18 years of age and older with a documented disability are invited to participate in Summer Internship 2012. All participants must be 18 by August 1, 2012 and have an open Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) case by April 1st. Individuals will receive job development and coaching services as needed. Presenter: Jan Stauffer, Summer Internship Coordinator, The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region.
Workshop L - High-Demand Occupation Training (HOT) Program, Harford Community College (HCC): Are you ready to succeed in some of the high-demand, high-growth careers available in today’s economy but don’t want to pursue traditional college-level coursework? Harford Community College’s H.O.T. certificate programs can help you with the training you need to become economically self-sufficient. GED/ABE information will also be shared. Victor Cyrun, Director, Business and Industry, HCC.
Workshop M - So You Want to Drive? Explore the “ins and outs” of obtaining a driver’s license in Maryland when various medical conditions are present. Learn about the role of the MVA’s Medical Advisory Board; the Adaptive Driving Assessment including Pre-Clinical Driving and Behind-the-Wheel Assessments; types of vehicle modifications; driving programs and the role of the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) in the process.
