1st Breakout Session

Workshop A - Your Future…Your Job: A multi-media presentation on preparing a successful job application. Attendees will develop a pocket resume for use at job fairs and when applying for a job. You'll also learn about internet resources for career exploration and information on jobs and career fields available in our community. Presenter: Jackie Angerhofer, Employment Counseling Supervisor, Susquehanna Workforce Network.

Workshop B - New Directions Waiver: The Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration's New Directions Waiver offers the opportunity to control your own services; including hiring your own job coach and accessing the services and supports you determine you need. Come hear about New Directions and ways in which transitioning youth are using it to meet their employment, post high school education and life goals. Presenters: Catriona Johnson, Asst. Director of State and Federal Relations, Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), and Edward Willard, New Directions Advocacy and Training Coordinator, DDA.

Workshop C - Workforce Technology Center (WTC): The WTC, a comprehensive rehabilitation facility operated by the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS), serves individuals of high school age and up. Programs include vocational, medical functional, and driving assessments; assistive technology; career training programs; job placement; independent living skills training; and many other services. Each summer, WTC offers nationally recognized college preparatory programs for students who are blind, have severe vision loss, as well as for students with learning disabilities. Find our how WTC's programs can help you design your future! Presenter: Jim Evans, Assistant Director, Workforce Technology Center, Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Rehabilitation Services.

2nd Breakout Session

Workshop D - Picture Yourself in College: If college is in your future, check out the services available at Harford Community College for students with disabilities. Reasonable accommodations may include extended time for testing, assistive aids and equipment, note-takers and interpreters. Other services including assistance with enrollment, assistive technology, academic advising and career service, and free tutoring will be discussed. Presenter: Lorraine Peniston, Student Development Specialist, Disability Support Services, Harford Community College.

Workshop E - How Can the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) Help Me? Learn about how DORS Counselors, throughout Maryland, are helping students with disabilities get ready to make the transition from high school to training, higher education, or employment. Presenter: Bel Air Office DORS Counselor.

Workshop F - Harford County Public Schools Alumni Talk Transition: Learn from the experiences of individuals who have made the transition to adult life, employment, college, independent living, etc. They'll tell you what worked, what didn't, and how their plan for the future helped them to achieve their goals. Facilitator: Nancy Brugh, Transition Coordinator, Harford County Public Schools.

Workshop G - You Can Ride…Harford Transit: Meet Harford Transit's Mobility Trainer/Coordinator and learn how "You Can Ride". You'll learn where the bus can take you, how to use Harford Transit's bus schedules, and about specialized services, including one-on-one travel training. Presenter: Cheryl Gable, Mobility Trainer/Coordinator, Harford Transit.

Workshop H - Recreation, Leisure and Social Life after High School: Everyone looks to recreation and leisure as opportunities for fun, fitness, relaxation, and friendship. What happens after high school and all the school-related activities are over? Learn about the many inclusive recreation opportunities available for teens and young adults in Harford County. Presenter: Chassity Seymour, Recreation Project Coordinator, the Arc Northern Chesapeake Region.

Workshop I - Take Charge of Your life and be Your Own "Self-Advocate": Whether in the workplace or on a college campus, it's important to know your strengths and needs, to know how they affect performance, and to be able to communicate this to other people. This workshop invites you and your parents to take the first steps to self-advocacy. Presenter: Andrea Buonincontro, Executive Director, Making Choices for Independent Living (MCIL).

4th Breakout Session

Workshop J - So You Want to Drive? Explore the "ins and outs" of obtaining a driver's license in Maryland, when various medical conditions are present. Learn about the role of MVA's Medical Advisory Board; the Adaptive Driving Assessment, including Pre-Clinical Driving and Behind-the-Wheel Assessments; types of vehicle modifications; driving programs; and the role of the Division of Rehabilitation Services in the process. Presenters: Helene Dubay, OTR/L, an occupational therapist providing Pre-Clinical Driving Assessment for DORS; and Daniel Dubay, Community Services Program Supervisor, Workforce and Technology Center, Maryland State Department of Education, Division of Rehabilitation Services.

Workshop K - Everything You Wanted to Know About Social Security Benefits, Work Incentives and More: An overview of Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. It will focus on work incentives and how work affects benefits. There will also an opportunity to ask questions. Presenter: Randy Howard, Public Affairs Specialist, Social Security Administration.

Workshop L - Building a Better Relationship with your Money: 93% of American teens agree that it's important to know how to live within your means and to have good money habits to be successful in life. This presentation will cover the basics of money management: establishing good credit, the importance of saving, managing debt, and establishing a relationship with a bank. Presenter: Gilbert F. Kennedy, III, Vice President, Corporate Banking, Bay National Bank and Vice Chairperson, Harford County Commission on Disabilities.
