FORMER TEACHER SENT TO PRISON


On February 5, 2003, Timothy Alan Lesh, a former North Harford Middle School Gym teacher entered a plea of guilty to one count of Child Abuse stemming from an incident which occurred in 1977 and an Alford plea to one count of First degree assault which resulted from an incident upon his arrest.

In the late sumer of 2001, a former student of the defendant came forward to authorities and disclosed that her former Gym teacher at North Harford Middle School had had sexual intercourse with her and performed various other sexual acts upon her in 1977 when she was a seventh grader at the school. The case was investigated by members of the Harford County Child Advocacy Center. As a result of eveidence gathered and a confession by the defendant to the now adult victim, the defendant was indicted on two counts of Child abuse. When DFC. Hugh John Doughtery and Cpl. David Betz arrived at the defendant's workplace at Patient First in Bel Air to serve an arrest warrant on the defemdant, the defendant puled a scapel from his lab coat and slashed at Dfc. Dougherty, coming within an inch of the Deputy's abdomen.

The plea was taken by the Honorable William O. Carr and defendant was sentenced to 15 years suspend all but 4 years to be served in the Division of Correction on the Child Abuse charge and 10 years susupend all but one year and one day in the Division of Corrections to run consecutively to the Child Abuse sentence.
