EARL CONVICTED OF MURDER AND ROBBERY


On 3 September 2003, after nine hours of deliberation a Harford County jury convicted Robert Scott Earl, 23, of the murder of Troy Reid, 30 , both of Havre de Grace. The jury found Earl guilty of first degree premeditated and felony murder, along with armed robbery, and use of hangun in commission of a felony. The crime took place on July31, 2002 and was investigated by Cpl. William Dill of the Havre de Grace Police Department. Eye witnessestold the eight women and four men on the jury that Earl approached Troy Reid wearing a mask, and while holding a gun to his head,ordered him to take off his clothes,then shot him once in the abdomen and once in the back. Troy Reid died approximately three and one half weeks later at the University of Maryland, Shock Trauma. After the crime, Earl fled to Pensecola Florida, where the Havre de Grace Police, working with authorities in Florida and U.S. Marshalls in Maryland eventually tracked him down and brought him back to Maryland to stand trial for murder. The case was prosecuted by Deputy State's Attorney Diana A. Brooks.

Sentencing was set by Judge Emory Plitt for 14 November 2003 at 9 a.m.
