RAINEY PLEADS GUILTY TO MURDER
Frank Vernon Rainey, Jr. plead guilty to first degree murder in the shooting death of Crystal Busta on 19 May 2005 on Edgewater Drive in Edgewood Maryland. The plea was taken today (19 January 2006) in the Circuit Court for Harford County by Judge William Carr. Busta's family gave victim impact statements to the court. The judge sentenced Rainey to a life sentence in the Division of Correction.
Assistant State's Attorney Vernon Gentile told the court that Rainey and the victim had met on the internet approximately three months before the murder. Ms. Busta wanted to end their relationship and return a ring that the defendant had given her. Rainey purchased a gun within days of meeting with Busta. In a statement to police, Rainey said that he was holding the gun behind the front seat when Busta enteredhis car to give him the ring. When she stated that she still wanted to break up he shot her in the temple.
Rainy then drove to the Harford County Sheriff's precinct where he told the duty officer that he had shot the victim, who was still seated in the front of his car. The gun was recovered from the car. Rainey also admitted to three other murders in Washington D. C.
