TRUCK DRIVER SENTENCED TO SEVEN YEARS
A dump truck driver was sentenced to serve seven years for causing the death of a 7 year old boy. Kevin DiGennaro was convicted of Manslaughter after the truck that he was driving spilled a ton and a half of gravel on MD. Route 136 near Churchville. DiGennaro activated the wrong control releasing the tailgate. Then he pulled over, closed the gate and left the scene. Maryland law requires truck drivers to remove spills and mark road hazards.
Devon Sandmeier was riding with his younger brother in a car operated by his mother when she unexpectedly hit the spill, lost control and struck an oncoming car which flipped the Sandmeier vehicle. A responding State trooper testified that he almost lost control of his cruiser and was only ble to re-gan control by steering into the oncoming lane. Judge Thomas Marshall handed down the sentence on Friday, citing DiGennaro's prior record as a factor in his sentencing decision.
