The Harford County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) announced its 21st annual award recipients during a ceremony at the Liriodendron Mansion in Bel Air. Presented each May in honor of National Historic Preservation Month, the awards recognize individuals and organizations that have demonstrated their commitment to the preservation of the County’s historical and cultural resources.
PRESERVATION PROJECT AWARD
The Preservation Project Award recognizes significant achievements in preserving, restoring or finding a sensitive adaptive re-use for the County’s built architecture. The 2016 award winners are:
Ladew Topiary Gardens for the conservation & restoration of the historic Berry Garden Fountain.
Special recognition: Michael Coomes, Howard Wellman, Ben Gage
St. Mary’s Episcopal Church for the stained glass windows restoration project at the County Landmark property.
Special recognition: J&R Lamb Studios of Midland Park New Jersey
Baltimore & Harford County Department of Public Works for their
efforts in the historic Jericho Covered Bridge rehabilitation project.
Special recognition: Keith Duerling; Naveed Shah; Wallace, Montgomery & Associates;
Kinsley Construction, Inc.; Barns & Bridges of New England; Friends of Jerusalem Mill
SPECIAL PRESERVATION AWARD
The Special Preservation Award acknowledges groups or individuals whose programming, activities, publications, exhibits, demonstrations or presentations focus on Harford County’s historic architecture, archaeology, or cultural heritage. The 2016 award winners are:
Steppingstone Farm Museum for promoting education and public history through the renovation
of the Foard Blacksmith Shop interior and the reinstallation and redevelopment of the exhibit.
Harford County Public Library for promoting education and
public history through their locally held series of programming.
PRESERVATIONIST HONOR AWARD
The Preservationist Honor Award recognizes individuals, organizations or businesses that have advanced the cause of preservation in Harford County over an extended period of time. The 2016 award winner is:
Jack Davis for his significant contributions in archeological investigative projects in Harford County.
