All property owners in Harford County pay a tax on their land and any improvements on it. The Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation determines the value of each property every three years.
Property assessments can be appealed to the four-member Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board.
Property tax bills are mailed to taxpayers on July 1. Property owners have until September 30 to pay without incurring additional costs. Properties for which taxes are not paid by April 1 will be prepared for the county’s annual tax sale.
Property tax credit relief is available for residents who qualify – senior citizens and veterans as well as residents who own historic properties, are using solar or geothermal energy or are within 1,000 feet of Scarboro Landfill. More information can be found on the Real Property Tax Credit Information page.
