Andre is a native of Harford County and has lived in the Edgewood area nearly his entire life. Andre was born in Harford County, Maryland in Aberdeen Proving Ground's Kirk Army Hospital. HIs mother, Vickie Johnson, is the daughter of George Perry who was a Master Sergeant in the United States Army. His mother married Andre V. Johnson, Sr., her high school sweetheart and they moved briefly to Philadelphia, PA. They moved back to Harford County, Maryland when Andre was 5 years old.
Andre attended and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1989. He married Shawnna Johnson in July of 2005 and has five children.
Andre currently serves as a Special Investigator for the Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development, under the guidance of the Mayor and City Council.
Prior to his tenure as Special Investigator, Andre honorably served in the United States Army as an Armored Crewman and retired as a Non-Commissioned Officer. During a brief break in service, Andre joined the Baltimore City Police Department and graduated from the police academy in August of 1997. He completed 2 1/2 years in the Eastern District of Baltimore City and transferred to the Harford County Sheriff's Office in January of 2000.
As a police officer, he served as a patrol officer on an elite warrant apprehension unit and the narcotics task force. He received 2 lifesaving awards during that time. He returned to serve his country in the United States Army after 9/11. Some locations where he served were: Iraq, Germany, Korea, Turkey, Fort Lee in Virginia, Fort Knox in Kentucky, and also several forward deployment locations. He received several awards and decorations as a Non-Commissioned Officer.
Andre's background and focus on community collaboration have led him to a number of volunteer opportunities and community leadership roles. Andre is a committee member of the Harford County Democratic Central Committee, Voices of Racial Change and the Police and Community Relations Committee chairperson. Andre also coaches Football and Girls' Basketball at Patterson Mill High School, where he also started a mentoring sports program in the Edgewood area called 555 Sports. Andre's committed to supporting, empowering and enhancing Harford County youth and families. His passion inherently lies within Harford County where he was born, raised and currently resides.
