Our Department of Emergency Services has begun implementing a new procedure to quickly stabilize a patient’s airway, when necessary, before the patient arrives at the hospital. Rapid Sequence Intubation (RSI) is a medical procedure that uses sedatives and paralytics to help assist with intubation. On Christmas Eve, a Career Medic used RSI for a young man in his 20s who was in unstable condition after his vehicle was hit by a semi-truck. Thanks to our skilled paramedics, the patient was successfully intubated before he was flown to Shock Trauma. Along with our new Whole Blood Program, RSI is helping our dedicated ambulance crews save lives in Harford County.
County Council Bill 25-012 calls for costly, binding arbitration in county government employee labor disputes, which is favored by public-union bosses but clearly violates the Harford County Charter. I vetoed this ill-advised and unenforceable bill and provided the council with a detailed rationale for my decision, noting that the county already has good employee relations and a fair and time-tested process for resolving employment disputes at no cost to taxpayers. I am disappointed that the council chose to override my veto. Click here to learn more.
