BEL AIR, Md., (Feb. 3, 2026) - Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly today announced his appointment of Liliana Norkaitis to fill the vacancy on the Harford County Board of Education created by the resignation of Dr. Aaron Poynton.
Ms. Norkaitis, herself a graduate of Harford County Public Schools, is a communications and outreach director in the Maryland General Assembly and has served in legislative offices at the state and federal levels. She was previously appointed by the county executive and confirmed by the council to the Harford County Commission for Women, where she currently serves as vice chair. A Bel Air resident, Ms. Norkaitis has filed her candidacy for an elected position on the school board representing District C.
“Considering all applicants, Liliana alone demonstrated her interest in serving on the school board by putting herself forward as a candidate for an elected position. She will bring experience in government, fiscal conservatism, and a fresh voice to our public schools,” County Executive Cassilly said. “I encourage the council to approve Liliana’s appointment as the school board faces crucial decisions about renewing the superintendent’s contract.”
Earlier today County Executive Cassilly forwarded Ms. Norkaitis’ name to the Harford County Council for approval. If confirmed, Ms. Norkaitis will serve the remainder of Dr. Poynton’s term.
