Harford County completed the third and final phase of the
Bush Creek Force Main Rehabilitation Project in December, 2017.
Phase I of the project, upgraded the Bush Creek Pump
Station. Phase II constructed a parallel
force main. Phase III, was the slip lining
of 4,300 feet of existing pipe that runs under the Bush River and through
neighborhoods on either side of the river. The project extended the life of the existing force main and provided a
redundancy of service for what was a sole source delivery system.
What is slip lining? Slip
lining is a process by which a new, slightly smaller pipe is inserted inside an
old pipe, avoiding the costs of a complete replacement. It is one of the oldest methods for
trenchless rehabilitation of existing pipelines. The Bush Creek Rehabilitation Project was the
largest and most complex application of the slip lining method ever applied in
Harford County. This cost saving
solution for aging infrastructure will safeguard reliable sewer service and the
quality of the Chesapeake Bay, now and for the future.
